Before I discovered ImgBurn, I was looking for a freeware application that could burn a DVD from .VOB files. I knew Nero Burning Rom could do it, but that one isn’t free. Luckily I disovered ImgBurn, a lightweight CD / DVD / HD DVD / Blu-ray burning application, that can burn anything to anything.
When you download DVDRs (DVD-Recordables), you usually get image files around 4,36 GB. Those files often cary the .img or .iso extension. However, sometimes you get a bunch of .vob (and sometimes also ifo, bup files) files.
How do I burn those VOB files (VIDEO_TS) to a DVD?
In order to burn a DVD from those files, you need to put those vob and other files in a VIDEO_TS folder, and also you need to make an AUDIO_TS folder. Leave the latter empty. This way you have:
– Main folder X
– AUDIO_TS folder (vob, and other files)
– VIDEO_TS folder (empty)
For burning a stand-alone DVD-player compatible DVD, you need to use the build mode (mode –> build). Simply select the main folder, hit calculate image size, and then build.
How do I burn an ISO or an Img file to a DVD?
For burning .iso and .img files, you need to use the write mode (mode –> write). Simply select the file of your choice, and hit write.
ImgBurn does that, and more. You can:
- Read – Read a disc to an image file
- Build – Create an image file from files on your computer or network – or you can write the files directly to a disc
- Write – Write an image file to a disc
- Verify – Check a disc is 100% readable. Optionally, you can also have ImgBurn compare it against a given image file to ensure the actual data is correct
- Discovery – Put your drive / media to the test! Used in combination with DVDInfoPro, you can check the quality of the burns your drive is producin
The best of all, is that it’s 100% free, and there are no ads or spyware in it. So forget Nero, if you needed that tool to make compatible DVDs. The program is light, quick and very user-friendly. If you need any asistance, you can always visit the ImgBurn forums, where they can help you.
