Weekly Album #3: System of a Down – Steal this album!

Posted by Flo in Music, Weekly Album on March 26th, 2008.

Steal this Album is a name that says everything about the album. It’s an anti-society themed album: asking people to do something illegal, namely stealing this album. It, on the other hand, can also be a message to their fans: don’t download our music, as a lot of tracks on this album were pre-released (not by SOAD) in slightly different versions on the internet as Toxicity 2.

The Japanese rock scene is a crowded one. Hundreds of bands make so-called Jrock and most of it is enormous crap. Luckily for us, there are some very good bands out there that really make good music. The best band is Asian Kung-Fu Generation and they’ve released their new album World World World.

10,000 BC Movie Review

Posted by Nick in Movies, Reviews on March 21st, 2008.

Roland Emmerich (director) likes to go back and forth in time, accompanied by a big budget. With Independence Day he considered an alien invasion, in The Day After Tomorrow he showed the results of an abrupt global warming, in 1998 he remade Godzilla. Even though these movies are big business, the quality varies from questionable to bad. Therefore it is no surprise that I was not very excited to see his newest movie, 10,000 BC.

Hundreds of extracting tools exist, of which most are free. There aren’t a lot of differences between them, but Extract Now does differ from the other free extracting tools. It’s small, it’s powerful, without any kind of ads and it´s incredibly easy to use.

Weekly Album #2: The Hives – The Black and White Album

Posted by Flo in Music, Weekly Album on March 7th, 2008.

The Swedish band “The Hives” is one of the leading punk/garage rock bands. This is one of the reasons why I just can’t ignore their newest album, The Black And White Album. It’s their first album in three years since Tyrannosaurus Hives, and the music on this cd surprised me: it’s not the Hives as I know them.

Burn any image file to CD/DVD with ImgBurn

Posted by Nick in Freeware, Tech on March 6th, 2008.

Before I discovered ImgBurn, I was looking for a freeware application that could burn a DVD from .VOB files. I knew Nero Burning Rom could do it, but that one isn’t free. Luckily I disovered ImgBurn, a lightweight CD / DVD / HD DVD / Blu-ray burning application, that can burn anything to anything.

Improve your music listening experience with MP3gain

If there’s one thing I hate when listening to music on my mp3 player, it is the difference in loudness between songs. If you’ve got a very poorly ripped album, you’ve got to change the volume of songs time after time. Besides that, these differences in loudness may go unnoted leading to hearing problems. With MP3gain, this problem is history.

File-sharing showdown: Usenet vs. Bittorrent

Posted by Nick in File sharing, Tech on March 4th, 2008.

When Bittorrent inherited the earth a while ago, file sharing became more popular than ever. The other major player in file sharing land is Usenet. Usenet has been around for quite a while as a public message network, but is also very popular when it comes to file sharing. Therefore it’s time to make a comprehensive comparison between these two.

Weekly Album #1: Wolfmother’s Wolfmother

Posted by Flo in Music, Weekly Album on March 1st, 2008.

Youtube is a great way to share music and video media with the world, and luckily people do share this media with each other, so why don’t make use of it? From now on, I will try to discuss an album of a popular artist every week, and add links to the songs (on youtube) and the lyrics to the review. I will also mark the tracks I really like with an “*”, so you’re able to get an impression of what the album offers in a few clicks. The first album I will discuss is the album Wolfmother from the band Wolfmother, as it is an album that let me appreciate metal music.
