At the moment, the most popular media players are definetely Windows Media Player and iTunes. Nevertheless, Winamp is also a pretty big player in this market and until a little while ago I was really sure that Winamp was the best media player around. Tag your music the right way with Kid3
Posted by Flo in Open Source on November 11th, 2008.Tags: bulk, editor, ID3, Music, tagging
Tagging music is quite useless for the average computer user since you would not even notice the difference. But if you want to distribute music, have a music collection or if you are a member of last.fm, you may need to have every song tagged correctly. When you use the windows XP system, this may take ages. You need to search for the correct tags on the internet and tag each file seperately. That is… until you download Kid3.

Rip videos and music from Youtube
Posted by Flo in Tricks on August 6th, 2008.Tags: Music, video, youtube
Sometimes videos are just too interesting to let them stay on Youtube, you just need to have them. There are several ways to do this, but I think that using the free program “MediaCoder” is the best way. This is a quick guide explaining how to use this software to get videos from youtube. I will also explain how to use it to only rip the music from a Youtube video (so you don’t have to search for it on usenet, P2P or a torrent site). Weekly Album #5: MGMT’s Oracular Spectacular

Fortunately, there is a way to turn every console with connection to the internet into a media station. This works by streaming movies and music from you computer to your console, so you don’t even need to mod your console! Here’s a quick guide for the Xbox360, PS3 and the Wii.

Finding good open source DJ tools seems to be hard. I’ve tried a few applications that said to have a scratching function, but Tactile12000 is the first one that really has working turntables in it.

Weekly Album #2: The Hives – The Black and White Album
Posted by Flo in Music, Weekly Album on March 7th, 2008.Tags: album, garage rock, Music, punk rock
The Swedish band “The Hives” is one of the leading punk/garage rock bands. This is one of the reasons why I just can’t ignore their newest album, The Black And White Album. It’s their first album in three years since Tyrannosaurus Hives, and the music on this cd surprised me: it’s not the Hives as I know them.
